Withdrawal and Retraction

Nayara Journal of STEM Education and Innovation (NJSEI) is committed to maintaining the integrity, transparency, and reliability of the scholarly record. The journal adheres to ethical publishing standards as recommended by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and takes all necessary actions to address issues related to withdrawal and retraction in a responsible and transparent manner.

1. Article Withdrawal

Withdrawal refers to the removal of a manuscript from the editorial and review process before it is formally published.
Authors may request the withdrawal of their manuscript under the following conditions:

  • The manuscript is still under review, revision, or editorial processing
  • There are valid and justifiable reasons, such as:
    • Significant errors identified by the authors
    • Accidental duplicate submission to another journal
    • Ethical concerns or authorship disputes
  • The request is submitted formally in writing to the editorial office, stating clear reasons for withdrawal

The editorial team will evaluate each request carefully. The decision to approve or reject a withdrawal request depends on the stage of the editorial process and the justification provided.
Manuscripts that have been accepted for publication or are in the final stages of production cannot be withdrawn, except under exceptional circumstances and with the approval of the Editor-in-Chief.
Unethical withdrawal practices, such as withdrawing a manuscript after acceptance without valid reasons or submitting the same manuscript elsewhere during the review process, may result in sanctions, including temporary submission restrictions.

2. Article Retraction

Retraction applies to articles that have already been published but are later found to contain serious issues that compromise their validity, reliability, or ethical integrity.
An article may be retracted under the following circumstances:

  • Evidence of plagiarism, duplicate publication, or redundant publication
  • Fabrication, falsification, or manipulation of data
  • Significant methodological errors that invalidate the findings or conclusions
  • Ethical violations, including authorship disputes, lack of ethical clearance, or misuse of data
  • Legal issues such as copyright infringement or defamation

Retraction decisions are made by the editorial board following a thorough investigation, which may involve communication with authors, reviewers, and relevant institutions. All decisions are guided by COPE principles to ensure fairness and transparency.

3. Retraction Procedure

When a retraction is deemed necessary, the journal will follow these procedures:

  • A formal retraction notice will be published and clearly linked to the original article
  • The original article will remain accessible but will be clearly marked as “Retracted”
  • The reasons for retraction will be explicitly and transparently stated in the notice
  • Relevant indexing and abstracting databases will be notified to update the article status
  • The metadata of the article will be updated to reflect its retracted status

This approach ensures that the scholarly record remains transparent while preventing the dissemination of unreliable or unethical research.

4. Corrections and Clarifications

In cases where errors are identified but do not invalidate the overall findings of the article, the journal may issue:

  • Corrections (Erratum or Corrigendum) to address minor errors
  • Editorial Notes to clarify specific aspects of the publication

Such updates will be clearly linked to the original article to maintain transparency.

5. Ethical Commitment

Nayara Journal of STEM Education and Innovation (NJSEI) upholds the principles of transparency, accountability, and academic integrity throughout all stages of publication.

The journal encourages authors, reviewers, and readers to report any concerns regarding submitted or published manuscripts. All reports will be treated seriously and handled confidentially, with appropriate actions taken in accordance with established ethical guidelines. By implementing this policy, NJSEI aims to ensure the credibility of published research and to maintain trust within the academic community.
