Conflict of Interest Policy

Sintesa Journal of Islamic Economy, Law, and Education (SJEILE) is committed to maintaining the highest standards of transparency, integrity, and ethical conduct in scholarly publishing. This policy outlines the definition, identification, and management of conflicts of interest involving authors, reviewers, editors, and the publisher. The journal adheres to the Core Practices established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

1. Definition of Conflict of Interest

A conflict of interest arises when an individual or organization has financial, personal, professional, or academic relationships that could influence—or be perceived to influence—their objectivity, integrity, or decision-making in the publication process.

2. Identification of Conflicts of Interest

All parties involved in the publication process are required to disclose any potential conflicts of interest. These may include, but are not limited to:

  • Financial interests: funding sources, employment, consultancy, stock ownership, or other financial relationships;
  • Personal relationships: family ties or close personal relationships;
  • Academic relationships: collaborations, institutional affiliations, or academic competition;
  • Competing interests: affiliations with organizations that may benefit from the publication;
  • Intellectual property: patents, copyrights, or other rights that may be affected by the research.

3. Handling Conflicts of Interest

SJEILE manages conflicts of interest with transparency and accountability throughout the publication process.

For Authors

Authors must disclose all relevant conflicts of interest during submission. If a conflict is identified after publication, authors must promptly notify the editorial board, and appropriate actions will be taken, including disclosure or correction if necessary.

For Reviewers

Reviewers must decline review invitations if any conflict of interest exists. If a conflict arises during the review process, reviewers must immediately inform the editorial team.

For Editors and Editorial Staff

Editors and editorial staff must recuse themselves from handling manuscripts where conflicts of interest exist. In such cases, the editorial board will assign alternative editors to ensure an unbiased review process.

For Publisher

Nayara Sintesa Publisher is responsible for ensuring that editorial decisions are independent and free from financial or commercial influence.

4. Transparency and Disclosure

All disclosed conflicts of interest will be clearly stated in the published articles where relevant. The journal ensures transparency by informing all stakeholders about disclosure requirements and maintaining fairness in the editorial process.

To prevent bias, editors, reviewers, or other stakeholders involved in a manuscript will not have access to the editorial process if they are listed as authors of the same submission.

5. Policy Review

This policy will be periodically reviewed and updated to ensure alignment with international best practices. Any revisions will be communicated publicly through the journal’s website.
